Maxwell Tour DatesMaxwell and Jill Scott reveal U.S. Arena 2010 Tour Dates :
(NEW YORK - March 4, 2010)- Grammy Award winning superstars Maxwell and Jill Scott announced the initial dates for their 20-city U.S. arena tour today including stops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and more. Singer and songwriter Maxwell is catapulting off his two recent Grammy Awards and his number one, platinum 'BLACKsummers'night' ( Columbia ), which dominated year-end critics lists. Grammy Award winning singer Jill Scott will be performing hits spanning her 10 year career starting from her double platinum Grammy nominated debut album 'Who Is Jill Scott?Words and Sounds Vol.1' through her upcoming album 'The Light Of The Sun' out Summer 2010.

Last fall, critics lauded Maxwell's energetic, crowd-pleasing performances: The Chicago Tribune commented "He worked his band like Cab Calloway or James Brown, the horns slicing and dicing with Ginsu-knife precision, a Hammond organ taking us to church, the drums peppering everything with syncopated beats. The show had style...Maxwell proved more than capable of taking the abundant personality and intimacy of his theater shows to a bigger stage," The NY Post wrote that "Maxwell became the quintessential soul brother. The singer stepped into a lone spotlight in the dark Garden, half singing, half preaching as if he were possessed by the spirit of Sam Cooke" while The Atlanta Journal Constitution said of his show "Within mere seconds, Maxwell was turning up the heat -- running up and down stairs on the set, sliding across the floor."

Triple threat singer, actress & designer Jill Scott has been taking Hollywood by storm and has a busy 2010 ahead of her. Recently seen as lead role in HBO's critically acclaimed mini series The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency, directed by the late Oscar winning director Anthony Minghella and Lifetime Movie Network's Sins Of the Mother, she is also prepping two movies, a cartoon series, a new bra for her Ashley Stewart intimate apparel line and new album 'The Light Of The Sun' out Summer 2010. Of her latest 2008 The Real Thing tour, People Magazine commented "Scott is one of those performers who makes everything she touches better. Which is why she has been a sought- after singer on other people's record" while L.A Times agreed "The live show exceeds the album and the energetic singer's playful asides exceed what can be published...her massive band--with its brass section, drums, guitar, bass, synthesizer and trio of backup singers--follow her every lead with a sound that is lu sh and well-oiled..." Maxwell Premieres 'Pretty Wings' Video, Announces Tour Dates :
Maxwell Concert TicketsR&B singer Maxwell premiered the video to his first single in over six years, "Pretty Wings," at Sony Music's New York offices yesterday (April 28). As exclusively revealed on, the song appears on his upcoming, fourth studio album, "BLACKsummers'night," due July 7th on Columbia.

"I'm so grateful for all of this. I'm so scared of what I do sometimes because it's difficult to out due yourself. But I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being so patient and sticking by me," Maxwell, sporting a black suit, black button up shirt and brown shoes, told the crowd gathered at the Sony Club.

Directed by Philip Andelman, the video to "Pretty Wings" depicts various women of different ethniticities having a difficult time sleeping because Maxwell, who, based on the lyrics to the track, has decided to walk away from the relationship. At the end, the ghost of Maxwell lays with each of them in their respective beds, and then disappears right before they each float into the air.

As of yesterday, "Pretty Wings" is available through digital service providers, as well as on, Maxwell's website. The video also premiered on BET's "106 & Park" yesterday.
"In the past few years I've been making music for myself, looking at the landscape and fighting for copyright - I've been living my life," said Maxwell when asked what he's been up to since his last release, 2001's "Now." "I felt a disenchantment and preferential treatment in the industry. There was humility, bravado and entitlement missing. So I sat back because I didn't want to throw what I had into thin air.

"But, then I came to the realization that this is a gift no matter what," he adds. "You need to cure and bring a connection through sound. I hope in some small way I can leave some kind of mark."

Maxwell TicketsProduced by Maxwell and co-produced by long-time collaborator Hod David alongside a live, ten-piece band, "BLACKsummers'night" is a nine-track set and the first installment of a planned trilogy. The trilogy's subsequent chapters include "blackSUMMERS'night" and "blacksummers'NIGHT," slated for release in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Maxwell is scheduled to headline the main stage of the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 4th. He will also be going on a major, stateside tour in support of "BLACKsummers'night," starting on June 20th in Milwaukee and capping off in Orlando on August 2nd. This trek follows his fall 2008 tour, Maxwell's first in six years. Although not supported by any new material, the tour sold out every stop.

"After I toured I remembered faces and encouragement and got so much inspiration. In today's time you need so many bells and whistles, but to be able to feel people's need for me made this record better," he said.

As far as what fans can expect on "BLACKsummers'night," Maxwell says he just hopes "people enjoy the music, put songs into your lives and apply them to your experiences -- clean your kitchen, make love to your girl, have children, all that."

Maxwell Biography (Brief) :

Maxwell Concert DatesAlong with fellow founders D'Angelo and Erykah Badu, Maxwell was enormously important in defining and shaping the neo-soul movement that rose to prominence over the latter half of the '90s. Drawing his greatest inspiration from the concept of the R&B auteur (looking to artists like Prince, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, etc.), Maxwell recorded some of the most ambitious R&B of his time, becoming wildly popular and often earning critical raves in the process. What was more, his recurring theme of romantic monogamy set him apart from the vast majority of his bump'n'grind lover-man contemporaries.

Maxwell was born May 23, 1973, in Brooklyn, NY; he adopted his middle name as his stage moniker, keeping his real identity a closely guarded secret out of concern for his family's privacy. Born of Puerto Rican and black Caribbean stock, Maxwell suffered the loss of his father (in a plane crash) when he was just three years old. The experience made him a deeply religious child, and he first began singing in his Baptist church. Still, he didn't really get serious about music until age 17, when he began writing his own songs using a cheap Casio keyboard given to him by a friend. Initially influenced by early-'80s urban R&B, he progressed rapidly, and by 1991 he was performing on the New York club scene, despite ridicule from classmates who couldn't imagine the shy, awkward teenager doing anything of the sort. After making a name for himself, he signed a recording contract with Columbia in 1994.

Maxwell TourMaxwell recorded his debut album that year, working extensively with several collaborators: songwriter Leon Ware (who'd co-written much of the material on Marvin Gaye's I Want You album in 1976), guitarist Wah Wah Watson (who'd also worked with Gaye), and multi-instrumentalist Stuart Matthewman (a longtime cohort of Sade). Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite was a romantic concept album in the vein of Gaye's greatest '70s work, with a more modern flavor courtesy of Prince's influence; inspired by a brief but intense affair, the record's giddy celebration of committed monogamy could have come off as old-fashioned as its classic influences, given the marketplace dominance of hip-hop soul at the time. Partly for those fears, it wasn't released right away, although a series of shake-ups in Columbia's management played a bigger role in the delay. It wasn't until the spring of 1996 that Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite finally appeared. Sales were slow to take off at first, even though Maxwell scored some airplay with "...Til the Cops Come Knockin'." The gold-selling second single "Ascension (Never Wonder)" lit the fuse, however, and Urban Hang Suite went platinum before a year had passed, also earning a Grammy nomination.

Maxwell Live in ConcertNow elevated to sex-symbol status, Maxwell capitalized on his breakthrough with the MTV Unplugged EP, taken from his live MTV performance. It attracted attention and acclaim outside the R&B community with the left-field cover choices "This Woman's Work" (by art rocker Kate Bush) and "Closer" (the Nine Inch Nails hit). Additionally, the Unplugged version of "Whenever, Wherever, Whatever" earned him another Grammy nomination (for Best Male Pop Vocal). Anticipation for his second full-length album was high, and when Embrya was released in 1998, it entered the charts at number three. Reviews were more mixed this time around, with some critics charging that Maxwell's ambition had crossed the line into indulgence; still, the record duplicated its predecessor's platinum sales. In 1999, Maxwell scored his biggest hit to date with the single "Fortunate," an R. Kelly composition he recorded for the soundtrack of the film Life; it was a mammoth success, ranking as the number one R&B hit of the year in Billboard magazine. Later that year, he also cut two songs for the soundtrack of The Best Man.

In August 2001, Maxwell returned with his third full-length album, Now, which was touted as a return to the more straightforwardly romantic atmosphere of his debut. It entered the album charts at number one and quickly launched a hit single in "Lifetime." Maxwell didn't resurface until 2008, when he performed Al Green's "Simply Beautiful" as part of the 2008 BET Awards. A handful of intimate performances prefaced his fourth studio album, BLACKsummers'night (the first installment in a promised trilogy of albums), released in July 2009. "Pretty Wings," its lead single, was in the Top 20 of the R&B/Hip-Hop chart within three weeks of its May release. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide   ...Source...
